Shaft rope cutters

Hi All,

I hope everyone is doing well.

I discovered that my stbd Spurs disappeared from the shaft.  I inquired
about the price and discovered that to replace it is almost $800.

I was never happy with this system as I caught a net once and the Spurs
didn't cut it.  I guess they're good for fishing line but if I'm going to
replace it I want something more robust if possible and less expensive if
that's possible.

Please share your experiences with these systems and recommend what you are
happy with.  Thank you.

Regards,

Jim

Jim,

Put the $800 in the "cruising kitty" to pay for a diver if one is ever
needed.  Odds are in 5 to 10 years you'll still have most if not all of the
$800 still in the kitty.  Or for about $800 you can rig yourself up a nice
little hookah rig set using an oiless air compressor, regulator, mask, fins,
knife, etc. to use to check/clear things as needed.

Just my two cents worth,
George

Thanks for your input George.  I have a hookah kit just as you describe
which is great if you're inshore in relatively calm seas.  We however
cruise offshore and near shore and in the Caribbean, where we presently
lie, there are fish traps where you least expect them.

Consider the Shaft Razor, $346 for 3” shaft. We had good experience with this unit on Winnie the Pooh, cutting a pot line on Florida Bay in rough weather at 5am when it would have been risky to get in the water.
