Dear List,
Well, now that we have the boat, we are beginning the process of adding
$$tuff........we would like to install a satellite dish, and vaguely remember
someone advising against telling the provider (Direct TV or whoever) that the
dish was to live on a boat. If we don't tell that the dish is mobile, how can
we get network feeds?
Our plan is to get the basic dish, and see if it works at the dock while
attached to the boat. If we have trouble with the signal, we plan to follow
Bryant Vann's advice and try the Follow Me system.
All input is appreciated!

Those geosynchronous satellites don't care who or where their broadcast is
received. I can't imagine that the satellite service would give a hoot
where you were. At the dock, a standard direct TV dish and receiver should
work fine--several in my marina have them. I just purchased a separate
dish to mount on the boat-I'll carry my home receiver with me to avoid the
extra cost of service. Remember, this service is licensed to you using the
serial number of the receiver and the "access card" which slides into a
little slot on the receiver. They don't know where you are--everybody gets
the same signal! Just be sure you get Speedvision for all the boating shows.
