The casting is stripped and glass beaded, any suggestions as to primer

under the paint?

I am of the perhaps old-school opinion that the best primer for bare
aluminum is zinc chromate.  However for environmental reasons this stuff
isn't as easy to find as it used to be, when every hardware store
carried it.  It's probably available from specialty paint stores,
however.  Interlux makes a primer for Brightside and Toplac but I'm not
sure if it's intended for metal.  You might check the Interlux website
about this or contact their local rep or the customer service folks on
the website.

Another alternative is to coat it with epoxy, and then paint it.  WEST
SYSTEM sells an aluminum etch kit that you pre-treat the surface with before
applying the epoxy. You can also add pigment to the epoxy (white, black or
gray, if memory serves) to aid in color coverage when you paint with either
one-part or two part paint systems.  Gougeon Brothers has instructions on
their Web site: www.westsystem.com.

No connection to WEST SYSTEM other than I used to work for them in another
life!
