This year I swapped out the old oil lines on my Lehman 120 and installed the
recommended ones from American Diesel. They are a larger ID. Also installed
a standard oil cooler (replacing a longer one) at recommendation of Brian
from AD.
Immediately noticed that oil pressure went up about 7-10 lbs. so checked
this with Brian who assured me that was expected.
Oil consumption has also gone up, waaay up.
Engine still runs up to 2500, sounds good, and has power. Running sound is
as normal.
I now have 6600 hours on this engine which is not a lot for a Lehman.
Starts good, does not seem to leave an oil trail, exhaust is clean (not
sooting the transom nor obvious in the air).
There is a mark somewhere between 1700 and 1750 and up where the oil
consumption really shoots up to about a quart in five hours run.
I am used to running this engine at between 1900 and 2100 which has never
been a problem for oil consumption in the past.
Any comments from the list?

Richard, Is the cooler a smaller capacity that might raise the oil temp? Just
increasing the oil circulation by raising the pressure 20% may be forcing more
oil past old seals. Are you running a straight weight or multi vis oil?

Have you changed the oil since these modifications? I'm thinking with the
extra capacity in the larger cooler and lines, maybe more oil is draining
back into the engine and the level is high enough to increase consumption.
You might change the oil and add exactly the amount called for, then check
the dipstick level. I had to do this with my Lehman (as should all of us)
and sure enough, if you filled to the factory mark, it was too much oil.
