Hi Richard,
Here are a couple more ideas for adding weight. Commercial fishermen tell me to use bags of concete mix. Apparently the paper bags allow the stuff to harden on its own with exposure to the moisture usually found in bilges. For my boat I used bags of sand. Lowes had 50 lb bags of "play sand" in tough plastic bags, which I figured wouldn't rot like the paper might. It was easy to slug 26 of them into place. I intended them to be temporary, but replacing them is down a ways on the "to do" list. Of course either concrete or sand is very inexpensive, but not as dense as lead or steel, and harder or impractical to really secure in place. Moveable ballast is nice, because you can move it. But on the other hand, there's that nagging feeling that maybe someday in a really hard chance it'll move on its own.
Cheers,
Paul
