About how much is the single 120 costing these days?
The current engine available from American Diesel is not a Lehman 120.
If I recall what Bob Smith told me awhile back it is a 140 or 145 hp
engine very similar in configuration to the original Ford diesel that
was marinized by Lehman. As such it is physically a drop-in replacement
for the 120 Lehman. I believe the base price at the time I talked to
him was about $8,000 but I could be off on that. The company has a
rudimentary website that will give you the contact information for
getting hold of them to ask more specific questions.
Installation costs are hard to predict since the ease or difficulty of
engine removal and installation will vary with every type of boat. If
windows have to be removed to get the engines out and in, or if the
engine has to be partially disassembled to get it into the boat, this
can add significantly to the installation time. Plus once the old
engine is out the chances are good an owner will want to do some things
to the engine room while there is easy access, be it cleaning, painting,
fuel tank replacement, etc. These can all contribute significantly to
the overall cost of the engine change.

Good time to assess your fuel tanks and replace if needed. If I had to
replace an engine, I'd probably do the fuel tanks at the same time. OH yea,
don't forget a tranny rebuild. Ah, what a slippery slope!

Money can't buy happiness -- but somehow it's more comforting to cry in a
Porsche than in a Hyundai.
