MVUS Newsletter and Meeting

JB

Normally I ask for articles for the months newsletter about this time of
the month. However as I did a November / December Newsletter this year,
this is mostly a meeting reminder.. Please do consider writing something
for the newsletter next year.

The monthly meeting for December will not be the normal 4th Friday due to
Christmas. This months meeting will be Tuesday December 28th instead. MVUS
has the MCL meeting room reserved from 6:30 PM untill closing. Actual
meeting starts after everyone is done eating.

Hi gys,

I tried sending to the MVUS list before and haven't seen it, so I am trying
again via the reply route:

In two weeks I will celebrate my 80th birthday.  I am in good health and
not planning on leaving any time soon (but nobody does).  I am no longer
doing anything above 50 MHZ and I have a lot of test equipment and antennas
that are still quite serviceable.  I would like to see them go to good
homes before my heirs hire a dumpster.

Here is a partial list and prices:

Agilent 8973A Noise Figure Analyzer 10 MHz-3GHz    $2500. no noise source.

HP8970A/HP346C noise source combo.    $650

Wayne Kerr Mil Spec Sig gen.  10KHz-2GHZ.  Note:  The output stage appears
to be blown and the output is 50 dB below the indicated level. ....  $500

HP 8569B 10 MHz-22GHz Spectrum analyzer.  This unit has the classical
"attenuator gold leaf springs have fallen off" problem.  It works, is
accurate and can be calibrated with an external generator.  I'm told with
patience, the attenuator switch can be repaired......    $750

Since I have been away from the game for a while,  these prices may be
off.  Please make a reasonable offer if you think it appropriate. All
equipment is working with the noted conditions.  I paid a lot more money
for these than I listed them for.  I have manuals for all of them, if I can
find them.

Shipping is out of the question for most of the stuff and will be the
responsibility of the buyer.  I would be willing to drive and meet within
200 miles or so.

There are a variety of VHF/UHF antennas available.  Most of them are still
in the air.

4 x 12 ele K1FO 144 MHz
4X33 ele K1FO 432
47 el looper for 902
power dividers for 144 and 432 (4 way) 50MHz 2 way

73,

Dave, K4TO

ps --  I now have three new JK antennas up with stack switching for 40 thru
10 meters, including 17 and 12 meters.  I worked all Summer assembling them
and had them put up by a 96000 pound, 200 foot crane and hired climbers on
Oct 14.  Due to a hand injury in July,(now healed),  I have retired from
climbing. Unfortunately I took a lightning strike and the tower rotator and
nine more pieces of ham and computer equipment were destroyed or severely
damaged.  I am working on the insurance claim.. wish me luck.  In addition
I have upgraded the grounding system with multiple rods, etc.
Then this weekend, not related to the lightning, our 23 year old
Geothermal heat pump went out.  Looks like a replacement is in order.  The
buried cooling loops, each, three-150 ft deep, are still good, thankfully.
So for the past two months I have been employed 8 hours a day, trying to
recover.  Also, during this time I have lost two dear ham friends and
another non-ham friend.  Thus, the motivation to start clearing the stuff.

Didn't mean to be so negative.  I really am in good spirits.  It is good to
have projects  :-)

73 again...Dave

HI Dave,,, good to hear from you, and Happy Birthday! Good to hear you are doing OK, even if things are falling apart around you 😉.

You may not see your posts on some lists, as they are set up not to copy the originator, but I don’t know for sure about this one.

That’s quite a list of gear! The prices on the NF boxes are reasonable, the sig gen and the Spec An are probably a bit high given their age and condition. Those would be nice antenna setups for EME on 2 and 70 cm. Would like to see more folks on 902 around here.

73,

Dave, K4TO

ps --  I now have three new JK antennas up with stack switching for 40
thru 10 meters, including 17 and 12 meters.  I worked all Summer assembling
them and had them put up by a 96000 pound, 200 foot crane and hired
climbers on Oct 14.  Due to a hand injury in July,(now healed),  I have
retired from climbing. Unfortunately I took a lightning strike and the
tower rotator and nine more pieces of ham and computer equipment were
destroyed or severely damaged.  I am working on the insurance claim.. wish
me luck.  In addition I have upgraded the grounding system with multiple
rods, etc.

It is good
to have projects  :-)

73 again...Dave

Dave, your email went out the first time.  Some email systems now filter
out email, that appears to be sent to yourself. Which happens for me. So I
had to turn on the list option that that confirms it distributed my emails
