ATTEN Tacoma/Pierce County Businesses & Artists: This movement is happening now and I want you to be a part of it. As we are all starting to realize, shopping local is the best way to keep money circulating locally, its better for the environment, it creates jobs and it helps to build strong communities. But sometimes a shortage of time makes doing that less than convenient for people. I feel like this project I'm working on now will have more impact on the local economy than any of my previous projects to date (Tacoma ART BUS, Speakeasy Arts Cooperative, Art on the Ave, Happy Friday Club, etc) because this will help change that. I have been given an online marketplace shopping platform (which I named Spectacular Tacoma) that could be Tacoma's own Amazon.com. Think of it like the online version of the Tacoma Mall except its all products from local businesses. What I love most about it is it has a search feature so it will make it so much easier for people who want to support local businesses to quickly discover which businesses have whatever product or service they need. Then they can just click to buy it right away instead of driving around town trying to find something. It's also a great way to sell GIFT CERTIFICATES online! It's totally free for the businesses to sign up and upload products and services so there is zero risk. There is a small 10% fee when something sells (which is well below Amazon, Etsy, Ebay and the rest). You can embed this platform into your existing website too! Its my intention to get at least 200 businesses on it by October so that we can launch it with a big campaign during the holiday shopping season. We have some great media partners lined up (more on this later-its VERY EXCITING!) but its important right now that we have a wide range of products and services available before we launch it to the public.
