Hello list, we are making a transition from 49' Blue Water sailboat with
32,000 miles under her keel in the last 12 years to a shallow draft (less than
4') vessel less than 36' LOA to ply Carolina coastal waters with.
Understanding that this may be a hard adjustment I would love to hear from some  of your
experiences T&T readers as to what your vessel would be for this  type
traveling, crew of 2 with very occasional guests. Budget $200K or less.  On line or
off-line at oyster485@aol.com (mailto:oyster485@aol.com)

Carl:

Several boats come to mind:

GB 32 or GB 36
Monk 36
Mainship 34T (pushes your $200K limit but may be feasible)
Camano 31
Nordic Tug 32 (also pushes the $200k limit)

In addition to the other fine boats listed in another response I think
you may want to consider an Island Gypsy. Powerboat Reports did a
comparison of the Grand Banks vs. Island Gypsy and summarized it with
"Comparable-and, in some cases, better-construction, combined with a
price advantage in the mid-double digits, makes the Island Gypsy look
like a winner to us." Powerboat Reports Volume 8, Mumber 6 June 1995.
I have a 32' Island Gypsy and am very happy. One nice thing about the
Island Gypsy is the deck is solid fiberglass so water intrusion will
not rot the decking core. The IG has a draft of 3.5 feet.

Carl,
How about a Krogen Manatee. 36', gobs of room, and only drafts 3' 2". Cost
is in the ballpark at $125K - $175K.
