Amazing battery prices

I have to replace one out of eight L-16's.  I am glad I am not
replacing the set.  Apparently China is buying up all of the lead and
driving the prices of batteries sky-high (The price has roughly
tripled in a year.)  I was quoted a price of 460 bucks for one
battery! (Trojan L16H from the local distributor).

Knowing that solar suppliers operate in a parallel pricing universe,
I  called one and asked for another quote.  They quoted me 360 for
the same battery, FOB the first supplier's loading dock.  Moral of
the story 1) baby your batteries -- they are valuable and 2) shop
around when you need to buy new ones.

Although it doesn't solve your problem completing your lead-acid bank, you
can get 6V AGM batteries from Defender (and probably others) for that price
and less. Keep shopping.

I have same situation using L16's.  I have not found any AGMs with the power
of the L16.  If you are aware of any AGM that has 420 AMP Hours let us know.

Thanks

Sorry all, I confused T105 golf carts with the larger L-16 with twice the
ampere hours, To make up, I've found much cheaper prices at:

Their policy on shipping is explained:

"
Shipping
Depending on your location in the U.S. we ship directly from the closest
regional Trojan factory distributor (to reduce shipping costs).
International orders on Trojan batteries require special arrangements,
please contact us for details and cost.

All shipments of these batteries are made by truck freight. Shipping charges
are calculated on a per pallet quantity; so a shipment of 1 battery will
cost about the same as 18. Please call for shipping amounts."

The price of lead and the shipping is a real cost problem.  I bought L16
last year at $250 and this year they are $372 in Minneapolis.  I talked to
the folks at Alternative Energy( I think it was them on the east coast)  and
they suggested that I buy elsewhere because of shipping.

Yes, have a look at Discover batteries. 390 AH AGMs in L-16 case sizes. See
http://discover-energy.com/files/datasheets/EVL16A-A.pdf

I used a bank of 12 of these in Island Eagle, so far so good.
