I missed the beginning of this thread. However i too have black ooze in my
fuel. Right now it's too cold to mess with it (Canada). However my crud
started to develop last year after I added BIOBOR jr to my diesel. Previously
I never added anything and never had a problem. Sofar the 2 Micron Racor has
kept the crud out of the engine. But I would sure like to get to the bottom
of all this and BTW a HEX on the guy who convinced me to use Biobor!

George,
The Biobor didn't cause the problem. The problem (heavy
infestation/colonization of bacteria) was already there. It would have
continued to grow and eventually "die off" causing your filters to plug.
The Biobor just caused the die off to occur now instead of later. I used
Biobor (and other biocides) for many years in my sailboat and continue to
use it regularly in my trawler and I believe I have prevented problem growth
from occurring. I switch biocides from time to time to prevent the bacteria
from acclimating.
Just my opinion and 2 cents worth. YMMV... :-)

George! And you are a long time listee.
The cautions against using additives and specifically BIOBOR come up every
year, outnumbered only by those who ignore the cautions and suffer the
consequences. DIesel should be left alone to do its work unaided by those of
us with not enough else to do but mess it up. If you are storing it more
than two years, maybe. If you know you have a water problem and are getting
by until you can fix it, maybe. If you live in Nome, maybe. Otherwise if
your system is working fine (most people) don't do anything to the fuel,
because anything you do will make it worse. Tend your filters religiously
(or at least by the vacuum gauges).

Like I said, the Biobor didn't cause the problem. The problem was already
there. The Biobor was just doing its job.
