National Coalition for Literacy Board Members List
View all threadsDear NCL Board and Margaret,
FYI, the release of the state-level PIAAC data will take place in the spring, not this winter, so plans for any event that may happen in conjunction with that are on hold for now.
Also, note that AIR is hosting a release event for the PIAAC study of incarcerated adults next Tuesday, Nov 15, noon-2:00 eastern time. You can sign up to watch the webcast here:

Looking forward to seeing some of you at AAACE this week!

Good afternoon,
Thank you to everyone who responded so positively to the earlier request, below. Your interest in advancing understanding of the PIAAC data is much appreciated.
With this email, I wanted to provide an update. After more conversations with ETS and NGA, we will not be planning a public release in November. We have agreed to hold the public release until all the products are available in the spring of 2017. This will afford us an opportunity to do a full release, without staging multiple releases, and also to capture interest among a new audience in Washington, DC.
In the meantime, we want to capitalize on your enthusiasm for these products and build on your perspectives and networks for future release, messaging, and dissemination. Your involvement will be critical to a successful release and subsequent use of the data to impact policy. To that end, watch for information about a winter meeting among the points of contact on this email, at which we could be introduced to the data and products and begin the conversation about messaging.

Subject: Update and Request
Dear Colleagues:
Irwin Kirsch and his team at Educational Testing Services (ETS) have completed an analysis of data from The Programme or the International Assessment of Adult Competencies (PIAAC), which is the Survey of Adults that allows us to get a picture of the skill proficiencies of the U.S. population. Irwin and his team now have PIAAC data for each state and DC. They are working toward producing a report that contains results on PIAAC and other state level data. Our office has agreed to work together with ETS on an event that would introduce these data. In our discussions, we were thinking about other organizations that might have an interest in joining the planning of or participating actively in the event. We are looking at a late November time frame.
When looking at the data, we felt that your organization might be interested. Hence, my question.
If you would like to join us in this effort, please let me know by COB on Friday, October 7th.
Thank you for your consideration and looking forward to your response.
Best wishes,
Johan
