The August MVUS meeting will be the annual picnic, measurement event and
election of officers. The normal monthly meeting at MCL will not be held in
August. The picnic will be on Saturday, August 8 starting at about 11 AM at
Daun Yeagley’s home. Daun’s GPS and street address are: :
39.506953, -83.862522
1353 Gurneyville Rd
Wilmington Oh 45177
https://goo.gl/maps/kNjTJnwyAR6CXzyg8
Depending on weather we may have to cancel the event. If it is cancelled
we will let you know on the MVUS e-mail list. Tom will not be flame
broiling his famous burgers this year. Please bring your own sandwich to
help with keeping the 2 meter separation. MVUS will provide snacks and
drinks (in individual containers).
*If you want any testing done at the picnic / Measurement event, contact
N8ZM at n8zm@mvus.org n8zm@mvus.org. *He needs to know what you want to
test and the frequency range. Preamps, antennas, power amps. SWR bridges,
power supplies, meters, whatever. Just let Tom know so we can have the
right test gear available.
Adapters for anything other than N, PL259, or SMA would be helpful.
Anything upto 6 GHz is easy above that advanced notice is definitely needed.
Bring a couple chairs as well, not to mention a mask.
If you need additional details contact Tom Holmes N8ZM at n8zm@mvus.org or

OK, so what IS a " What3Words address"?
Never heard of it, so with a definition, we may be able to figure it out.

It has a huge compression ratio, though.
Plus, it has "social distancing" built in. Just assign all RSVP'ed
attendees their own three words.

Repair. Re-use. Re-purpose. Recycle.
It's not designed to be geographically "useful" for calculating distances,
nearby squares, etc. It's meant to replace street addresses, especially
where those addresses don't exist (or aren't consistent). The criteria are
that it's easy to remember/convey, it's unique worldwide, it's unambiguous,
and can locate areas that are small enough to be useful for addresses in
most situations.
That said, it's got a lot of problems, mostly the project used is "web
mercator" so it can have accuracy problems in areas of extreme elevation
change. The biggest issue is that the algorithm used to calculate addresses
is proprietary so you need to use their service for lookups. People have
published functionally equivalent algorithms and been hit with DMCA
takedown notices.

I tend to prefer UTM (or MGRS...different view of the same data). But try
remembering a lat/lon to 6 digits precision, or an equivalent UTM...not
something I like to do with frequency.

I tend to prefer UTM (or MGRS...different view of the same data). But try remembering a lat/lon to 6 digits precision, or an equivalent UTM...not something I like to do with frequency.

Can't say that I care for it. I MUCH prefer Lat-Lon. At least it's
logical.

That said, it's got a lot of problems, mostly the project used is
"web mercator" so it can have accuracy problems in areas of extreme

I'm candy.cable.dome btw.

But what's Daun's What3Words address? Inquiring minds want to know.

Depending on weather we may have to cancel the event. If it is
cancelled
we will let you know on the MVUS e-mail list. Tom will not be
flame broiling his famous burgers this year. *Please bring your
own sandwich
to
help with keeping the 2 meter separation.* MVUS will provide
snacks and drinks (in individual containers).
*If you want any testing done at the picnic / Measurement event,
contact
N8ZM at n8zm@mvus.org n8zm@mvus.org. *He needs to know what you
want
to
test and the frequency range. Preamps, antennas, power amps. SWR
bridges,
power supplies, meters, whatever. Just let Tom know so we can have
the right test gear available.
Adapters for anything other than N, PL259, or SMA would be helpful.
Anything upto 6 GHz is easy above that advanced notice is
definitely needed.
Bring a couple chairs as well, not to mention a mask.
