70 species Amherst Island 24/10/02

Gerald & Shirley Paul birded Amherst Island Thursday, October 24, 2002 from
8  AM to 3 PM and identified 70 species. Our list included: 3 Common Loons,
25 Double-crested Cormorants, 2 Brant, 10 ducks (including all 3
mergansers), 5 gulls (including a Little Gull), 3 Great Blue Herons, 10
shorebirds (including Semi-palmated Plover, Common Snipe, White-rumped
Sandpiper, Sanderling, Pectoral Sandpiper), Ring-necked Pheasant, 6 Hawks (5
Red-tailed, 7 Rough-legged, 5 American Kestrel, a Merlin capturing & eating
a Dark-eyed Junco, Northern Goshawk, 5 Northern Harriers, male Ring-necked
Pheasant, 5 Long-eared Owls,1 Short-eared Owl, 1 Great Horned Owl, 3
Woodpeckers (including a Common Flicker), 1 Eastern Phoebe, 100 Water
Pipits, White-breasted Nuthatch, 4 Golden-crowned Kinglets, 1 Eastern
Bluebird, 65 American Robins, 5 Hermit Thrushes, 3 Yellow-rumped Warblers, 8
Rusty Blackbirds, 160 Dark-eyed Juncos, 12 Snow Buntings, 2 House Finch, 7
Sparrows (including Fox, Vesper, White-crowned, White-throated).
