Thanks again to everyone for your responses!
I have ordered from pyacht.com all of the awl grip stuff I need for the two
part poly.
My question is about taping.
I use 3M's fineline.
Taping off will require:
the lower strip of tape to be 3/4's of an inch above the bottom
paint/water line
the upper strip of tape 3.25 inches above the 1st
There will be a primer coat and two top coats, I think I need to re-tape
between each coat, wha do you think?
Thanks

John, first of all, I'm glad to see you quit that lousy Senate job and have
decided to dedicate your time to a much more pleasurable pursuit.
Second, I tried to paint the top coat over primer without changing the tape
and when I finally removed the tape the primer was so dried that the tape
pulled away parts of the primer/paint layers. It patched up OK though. I
would re tape between primer and top coat myself, but I may have done
something wrong in my application.

John, In my opinion the finished job will look better if you do not make
the bootstripe of a constant width. The width of the bootstripe should vary
in proportion to the freeboard along the length of the waterline. Working
with a drawing or photo find the point of minimum freeboard. Make the
bootstripe narrowest there, say 3 inches. Then working forward and aft from
there, increase the width in the same way the freeboard increases. If, for
example, the freeboard at the bow is 1.5 times that at the minimum point,
then the bootstripe will be 1.5 X 3 = 4.5 inches at the bow. Do a similar
calculation at maybe ten points along the length of the boat. Of course it
is the upper tape that curves, the lower one remains straight. Try it on
paper.... you'll like it.
