Highlights of reports received October 30 through November 6
from the Niagara Frontier Region.
November 2, on Lake Erie at Dunkirk Harbor, a very late RED-
NECKED PHALAROPE with a DUNLIN at Wright Park Beach.
The inevitable winter visitors are arriving across the
region. November 1, a rare OREGON JUNCO at a feeder in the
southern Erie County Town of Colden. In Chautauqua County, 3
ROUGH-LEGGED HAWKS, including a dark-phase, along Route 326
in the Town of Charlotte. Also two local COMMON RAVENS.
November 1 on Lake Ontario, off Fort Niagara State Park,
transients included up to 3 PARASITIC JAEGERS and 154 BRANT,
plus numbers of winter regulars - GREATER SCAUP, LESSER
SCAUP, SURF SCOTER, WHITE-WINGED SCOTER, BLACK SCOTER, LONG-
TAILED DUCK, BUFFLEHEAD, COMMON GOLDENEYE, COMMON MERGANSER
and RED-BR. MERGANSER. Also on the lake, LITTLE GULL, 4 RED-
THROATED LOONS, 7 COMMON LOONS, HORNED GREBES and 2 RED-
NECKED GREBES. Further east along the Lake Ontario shore, 9
TUNDRA SWANS and a BALD EAGLE near Johnson Creek in Orleans
County.
Waterfowl off Goat Island at Niagara Falls on the 1st, 1200
GREATER SCAUP, with 10 LESSER SCAUP and 6 TUNDRA SWANS, plus
SURF SCOTER, BLACK SCOTER, BUFFLEHEAD, COMMON GOLDENEYE and
HOODED MERGANSER. In the Niagara Falls gorge, 2 SABINE'S
GULLS in the falls mist, and 2 PEREGRINE FALCONS.
And, also on the 2nd, at least 10 CACKLING GEESE among
abundant CANADA GEESE at Sinking Ponds Nature Trails, at the
north end of Pine Street in East Aurora.
There will be a BOS field trip this Saturday, November 8, to
