Everyone may know by now the party is over in Trinidad - no more subsidized
Diesel for US$1.00/gal for foreign-flagged vessels. Thanks to some
enterprising idiots who filled up here and took it up-island to the BVI to sell for
$3.00 when it was $4.00 there. Anyway, things are now better if you can take 500
liters or more. Price at Chag Terms here was 2.28/gal. (no tax) 2 days ago -
better than in PSV where it was still $4.00 but not as good as in St Croix
where you can get it for $1.97. I did see the analysis on the sample from
Trinidad - the Cetane was 50 - damn good. Sulfur was 0.08. St Croix is apt to be
as good or better bcs it was likely made last night at the Hess refinery
there.
BTW, there has been such an upsurge of deadly crime in VE that not many here
will risk going there for fuel anymore. Regardless of the cheap price, it is
reported by those who have been there that it is far less desirable in terms
of cleanliness and the attractive price applies only to small quantities and
getting more comes with some risk.
Still, VE seems less dangerous than Brazil, where a lot of folks coming from
South Africa have been robbed of everything.
