Hey all,
https://addons.thunderbird.net/ (ATN) is currently available in roughly
the code state that it will go live. The database and file store are
still on the old copy from late last year, but that will be updated this
week after addons.mozilla.org turns TB/SM submissions off, and once
we've verified that everything works, addons.mozilla.org will be
redirected to addons.thunderbird.net(see: github issue
https://github.com/mozilla/addons-server/issues/6390). Note that
anything you do on the site now will be overwritten by the database
copy, so don't rush to update or upload add-ons.
I've uploaded an add-on that modifies Thunderbird's prefs to point at
the new site, and it can be used for easily testing it in any current
version of Thunderbird. You can find it here
https://addons.thunderbird.net/en-US/thunderbird/addon/thunderbird-addons-test/.
The add-on doesn't do anything other than modify prefs, and removing it
will restore the prefs to defaults. Code is here
https://gist.github.com/Sancus/de9c386630b343f54d1231c402a07fdb if
anyone is curious.
I've tested add-on installs from within Thunderbird, uploading a new
add-on, and the review process. Because the database is old, hardly any
add-ons are marked as compatible with TB60 on ATN, but if you are
running a release version you should be able to install stuff, and you
can search for and remove/install the Thunderbird Addons Test, which is
marked compatible up to TB65.
The site may go restart/briefly go down at any time until the AMO
redirects are turned on(which will be announced), but there shouldn't be
any extended(>15 minutes) downtime. If any major downtime is required,
it will be announced here. There is also an email scheduled for July 10
to developers on AMO so this is not the only communication that will be
going out.
Issues can be filed at https://github.com/thundernest/addons-server/issues
Known Issues:
-
https://addons.thunderbird.net/en-US/firefox/ and android are still
available for now. Eventually they will redirect back to
addons.mozilla.org, the redirects aren't live to make it easier to look
at the firefox sections as the process to delete Firefox-only add-ons runs.
- Currently emails are turned off, because the process to delete
Firefox-only add-ons sends an email for each one deleted and that might
overwhelm our mail provider. These are working and will be enabled later.
- Add-on stats on number of users may not visibly update for the first
week or two, but the data shouldn't be lost. More information on this to
come.
