Hi all,

Late this afternoon I saw 2 Snowy Owls within a few km of each other near
Casselman. Both were dark individuals.

DIRECTIONS: From Hwy 417 east of Casselman take exit 58 and proceed north on
Cty Rd 8 for about 1 km until you come to Concession 20 in the middle of the
long curve.  Turn right on Concession 20 and go to the intersection of
Ste-Rose Rd.
Both owls were observed on top of a telephone pole on Concession 20 Road
near the intersection.
The chances are unlikely  that the owls will be exactly at these same spots
so you may need to drive the back roads to find them.

Hi all,

Either that or the snowies hitched a ride on Santa's sleigh last night.
While scouting my section for the upcoming CBC to be held in the Casselman
area on January 4,  I located 5 Snowy Owls between 4:00 pm and 4:40 pm
today.  They were again found in their traditional hot spot east of
Casselman.
DIRECTIONS: From Hwy 417 east of Casselman take exit 58 and proceed north on
Cty Rd 8 for about 1 km until you come to Concession 20 in the middle of the
long curve.  Turn right (east) on Concession 20 .  Right here was a PURE
WHITE adult male on top of a hydro pole. Continue along Conc 20 rd. to the
intersection of Ste-Rose Road. At this spot was a dark individual on top of
a hydro pole. Turn left and proceed north towards Ste-Rose then stop at
intersection of Concession Rd 19.  In this area was another dark bird on top
of yet another hydro pole. To find the 4th snowy, turn left (west) on Conc
19 and go to house 2493. On the silo was perched THE DARKEST SNOWY OWL I
have ever seen.  It looked like a Hawk Owl with a white face! To get to the
5th and final snowy go back to Ste-Rose Road and drive to the village of
Ste-Rose.  At the stop sign turn right (east) on County Road 3 towards
St-Isidore and drive a short distance until you come to house 3021.  This
dark Snowy Owl was perched on the TV antenna.

Hi all,

I did the same route where I had seen 5 Snowy Owls yesterday and found only
one this morning.  It was there at 7:30 but when I returned 30 minutes
later it too was gone.  This is the same location that has been fairly
reliable for the last little while.  The best time has always been late
afternoon.  If you visit please post what you see or e-mail me privately.

Nineteen participants, 16 in the field and 3 at feeders conducted the first
ever Forêt Larose-Casselman Christmas Bird Count on Tuesday, January 4.
Weather conditions for observing birds were excellent, with mild
temperatures and no precipitation.

Compared to neighbouring Vankleek Hill's 25-year average of 37 species, la
Forêt Larose's count of 40 species and 2,918 individuals is respectable.

Earlier this morning (Nov 19) I saw a lightly barred SNOWY OWL on a hydro
pole on Concession 19 west of Ste-Rose Rd.  It was in the same location
where a very dark snowy had stayed last winter.
Three ROUGH-LEGGED HAWKS were at the east end of Concession 19 at the
intersection of Cty Road 9 near St-Isidore.

At 10 this morning (Nov 20) I saw the lightly barred SNOWY OWL in the middle
of a field on Concession 19 west of Ste-Rose Rd. A gentleman from
Switzerland, accompanied by his young child, was sitting on the side of the
road sketching the owl. He also saw the owl yesterday at about 2 pm.

At the corner of Conc 20 and Ste-Rose Rd were 7 GRAY PARTRIDGE. Nearby,
mainly from Conc 19, I saw 6 ROUGH-LEGGED HAWK and one NORTHERN HARRIER.
