Fender boards can be fickle things to keep in place. We've found that the
location of the fender board's pendants is important... outside of the
fenders, but far enough in from the ends of the boards to not let the
fenders escape. Too far in and the board might have enough leverage to
allow the fender to escape.
For our fender boards, this distance is about 5" in from the ends. This is
prefaced on the fact that our fender board's pendants have eyes in them
which slide down over the fender's pendants. Even so, our 36"-long boards
do allow the fenders to escape periodically if wave action is quite marked.
One of these days I want to make boards slightly longer, but still short
enough to be able to stow where they stay now, somewhere about 42" in
length. If I do make replacements, I'll also move the pendant location in
to about 6"-7" from the ends, thinking that this will reduce the
opportunities for the fenders to come out.
Maybe we should have a competition to see if someone can come up with the
perfect fender board?
