No luck with the Lark Sparrow today between 1:30 and 4:30 at Hammonasset.? Rumor has it that other birders were present earlier in the day and also did not have any success.? On a positive note the Tricolored Heron was at the new marsh at the East Beach Parking lot at 3:30 though it?was not easy to find.? It was only visible for about 5 seconds and completely blended into the marsh before and after the sighting.

Other birds present behind the Nature Center during the 3 hour vigil there included -

1 Merlin

1 im. Goshawk - went after the sparrows but wasn't successful

1 Cooper's Hawk

1 Hummingbird

I see there were some negative reports on the Lark Sparrow.  I had the bird on 10/1, near the amphitheater behind the nature center.

A reminder that the Stratford Bird Festival kicks off with a bird walk this evening.  The bulk of the activities are on Saturday and there are also some public bird walks on Sunday.  For more details, please see:

Tomorrow's activities include bird walks, talks on bird conservation, bird banding (weather permitting), an American Kestrel from the Sharon Audubon Center, a shorebird ID seminar from the Connecticut Audubon Society, bird carving displays, including some historic Shang Wheeler decoys and a raptor presentation from Wing Over Wings.
