What was the specific gravity of the grout? ie., did the boat lay to her
lines after you filled the keel?

Yes - she did not change more than 1/8 in.
  • I was mistaken about the volume - it is .50 cu ft / 55 lb bag ..

Consistency of  FX 228 is when mixed to Flowable or Fluid proportions is :

Flowable ( 135 Flow Table )1.15 gal water  ( 4.35 Lt )
or Fluid ( 30 sec flow cone ) 1.26 gal ( 4.77 Lt ) water

Compresive strength is :
Flowable  1 day 5,800 -49.0 MPa  - 7 days  8000    55.2 MPa ,
Liquid 1 day 4000  37.6 MPa , - 7 days same as flowable ..

Either mix will maintain fluidity for up to 1 hr without continued

mixing  ( therefore easy to work with )  Initial set time is approx  4 hrs
at 70 F  .

It is non shrinking - in either mix . It is NON METALLIC ...

It is recomended for use for encapuslation of wood , concrete or steel

piles  ( it's what was used to renew the piles of the Chesapeake Bay Bridge
and the Hanover Street Bridge  amoung others ) also for achor bolts, column
bearings  , bridge bearing seats, pre stress deck beam keyway grouting
etc .. It is " highly resistand to salt water and de- icing  " --- it's
tough stuff

I have loaned out my product handbook so cannot give the SG .. When

used in encapuslation of pilings - a mold is constructed and the mix poured
in to displace the water ..

I have no doubt that the mix would displace any remaining water in the

keel - if you had a hole at the top to let it out - but personaly I would
drain the keel first .

I have also used ( 5 yrs ago ) the FX 70-9 - as a barrier coat on the

bottom of Mrs. Hudson - it is a100 % Epoxy Solids - with tensile Strength of
5000 min at 24 days and compressive  strength of 6000  +/- 500 psi at  7
days - I  don't think that products normally sold as
" Marine "epoxy barrier coats - which contain lots of  solvents can ever
equal that - and the material cost for the whole job was under 150 bucks ...

Fox Industries  phone 410 243 8856  If it has to do with industrial
epoxies , or polyurethanes  and the like - they probably make it !!

Hope  this is somewhat helpful - usual disclaimers :)

All the Best
Ken
