The Price of Antifreeze

Dear list,

For reasons not germane to this discussion, I just purchased some 15+
liters /16 quarts of Iveco approved antifreeze for my engine. It comes in 1
liter, 3 liter, a 8-9 liter jug, and then in a metal tin.

I paid about $43.50 for the 15-16 liters / quarts.

It is supposed to be thinned with no less than 25% water and no more than
50%.

This is the first year I have been able to find the actual named brand of
the antifreeze, and not just a brand that claims to meet the mil-specs that
Iveco states. It is made in Turkey from EU import chemicals, but further
research indicates that no one knows of a Turkish brand made in country
that they would be willing to use.

So, my wonder is did I get hood-winked? Too late to return but can buy
locally produced ones (with U chemicals) that are maybe 40-50% cheaper but
do not allow for more than 25% dilution.

Levent Marina, Izmir Turkey

Oh, and yes, it takes about 40 liters to drain and rail my system. And I
have only done it once, and plan to do it next year. And yes, I use
distilled water for dilution. Since I only do this every 4-5 years, seems
like doing it right is the right thing to do.
