9/25 Connecticut Audubon Coastal Center, Milford. 10am-1PM. overcast, mid-tide-receding, 65F. Several visitors today who were here for the first time. They enjoyed the children's area , views on the marsh and Franklin the diamond backed terrapin. On the marsh: ( viewed with binoculars and scopes)-As the tide was receding, around 12:20PM a huge , mixed flock of gulls, egrets, cormorants were feeding - about 33 D.C. Cormorants (bobbing up and down), 25 Snowy Egrets, 9 Great Egrets, about 15 Laughing gulls with Ring billed and Herring gulls scooping up the fish, with 1 Greater Yellowlegs. Earlier- 5 American black ducks, 1 juvenile Yellow crowned night heron feeding and a young buck drinking at edge of the marsh. On the grounds: 2 Ruby crowned kinglets & 2 Pine warblers as I drove in. 1 Downy Woodpecker, 2 Yellow rumped warblers, 3 Mourning doves, 4 Cardinals, 2 Carolina wrens singing, 6 House finches, 2 Chickadees, 2 Northern flickers, an American Crow, many House sparrows and 1 Ruby throated hummingbird zooming through.
