Hi Georgs -
When we took "the Horse" back to the States we did a 3-day rhumbline from
Boca del Monos to Cruz Bay, St. John. There, we checked in with US
Immigration, overnighted and exactly 7 days later on the rhumbline we made landfall at
Beaufort, NC. A nice trip in mid-May, with small following seas, wind and
current for the first 4 days of the westward leg. I think we averaged 7+ knots.
If you want to hop, good day trip hops are: Prickly Bay, Grenada; Tobago
Cays, Admiralty Bay, Bequia; Rodney Bay, St. Lucia; St. Pierre, Martinique;
Prince Rupert Bay, Dominica; Les Saintes, English Harbour, Antigua (this puts you
upwind of Montserrat); Ballast Bay, St. Kitts; Simson Baai, St. Maarten (no
need to go inside). You won't need to bother with Customs anywhere as long as
you don't get off the boat. From St Maarten you can either head for the US
thru the Anegada or hop over to St. John to clear as said previously.
You'll need to watch out for early-season tropical waves; one formed a week
ago as we were laying the sailboat up.
Yes, we are planning another voyage to Trinidad in early November '08 and
returning in May.
Regards,
John & Penny

What recommendations do you experienced Caribbean hands have for a
passage from Trinidad to Charleston in terms of routing, weather and
timing?
I'm not thinking of a season-long cruise but something a week or two
more than a delivery.
Also, anyone else on the List thinking about such a passage in 2008?
