HOWEVER, I'm told that the leased bottom lands do NOT extend outside
this anchorage/mooring field, so cruisers can, theoretically, anchor
anywhere else within Sarasota Bay.
REPY:
Of course Sarasota Bay is a large expanse and I have experienced 3 to 4
foot waves there in the bay. Not fun riding at anchor. Been there, done
that. The current anchorage and proposed mooring field is the optimum
location. Hopefully, there will be a little room nearby for anchoring.

Looking at the planned outline of the mooring field and a nautical chart, it
appears that they are pretty well filling up the entire traditional
anchorage, leaving a VERY small space with adequate depth for an anchoring
area. If many of the usual liveaboards anchoring there move out into the
allowed anchoring area, don't show up late in the afternoon planning to find
a spot for the night!
