Cruising America's Great Loop and other inland routes
View all threadsI was not "dissing" older trawlers. I just wanted
to find out what one looked like. If we do the Loop,
it will probably be in our current boat, a 1995, gas-
engined Carver 355 Aft Cabin. I can buy a WHOLE LOT
of gasoline for the price of Diesels!!

Don't be afraid of an older trawaler, especially one that
has been on the Loop. Many purchase the boats for this
trip of a lifetime then sell them. Prior to departure
they took care of all those nagging problems that the
previous owner didn't take care of. Now the boat is in
tip-top shape and has been well maintained for the year
or so they were cruising and in many cases electronics
have also been updated.
Know what you want and stick with that make or model and
find the best one you can.
Check out the AGLCA News as there are always boats listed,
all tried and proven vessels.

Two of these are currently listed on "BoatTraderOnline.com"
listing at 99k and 79k.
Definitely presents a different and interesting appearance!

You are right on the money. I own a 32' Legacy Trawler
1990; builder is in Fla and does more commercial boats
than recreational although he is now has placed an ad
in passagemaker mag. Our boat is a twin cabin full
displacement with 50 hp perkins. At 6 knots I burn
0.5 gal hr, at 7 knots 0.75 hr. The boat carries 130
gal of fuel in two tanks for a range more than 1200
with a 20% reserve at 6 knots.
