OUCH!! Sitting on the hard at Pikes Bay Marina just south of Bayfield, WI, is a relatively new Mainship 400. What caught my attention was that it had no props, no struts, no shafts, shaft logs. The bottom of the boat was as bare as a row boat. It was a twin engine boat. The harbor master informed me the owner had tore up his running gear on rocks at Isle Royale National Park in Lake Superior. However, what is amazing is that Bayfield, WI, is more than 100 miles as the crow flies to Isle Royale. This guy had limped all the way across Lake Superior. I guess Bayfield is the closest place where there are full repair facilities. My wife said, "I hope he has good insurance." Isle Royale is a beautiful place, but its treacherous place to boat and a long way to go if you have problems.
