Updating location for multiple records at once

Newcomer here... we are excited to finally have our CollectionSpace up and
running. I am busy learning as I go!

Here's a question that came up today: I just cataloged 15 objects that will
live in the same box on the same shelf. Is there a good way to update the
location for all 15 objects at once? Does it make sense to create a
Loc/Mov/Inv record with the location and then add the 15 catalog records in
question? Or might that cause troubles in the future when we change the
location of just one of these objects if it goes on exhibit, etc? Is it
better to just do individual Loc/Mov/Inv records for each object?

Thanks,

Emily -

This situation is just what the "hard save" was made for. Create the L/M/I, add the 15 objects, and then hard save. That way, the record can't be edited and someone can't inadvertently change the location for 15 objects.

In general, we also recommend adding a new L/M/I record whenever the location of an object is changed vs. editing an existing record. That way, you can see the location history of an object / group of objects.

Hope this helps,

Megan
