What a very interesting day. Gotta admit, some of you got some skin, but
eventually I'll stop bleeding.
I still appreciate the responses (I think), even though there were a few
somewhat against the idea. Many points madeb& some for, some against, some
polite and some less so.
No matter how the opinions were voiced, I suspect that all of them will go far
in helping someone sort out, for themselves, how they wish to deal with the
subject.
No matter how they choose, I hope that they choose to boat safely, whether it
is similar with our manner of doing it or someone elsebs.
Not mentioned, though I think that it needs to be voiced, is that we do not
encourage anyone to cruise the way we do, but for those who have the interest
and desire, contrary to a lot of opinions out there, it can be done and done
safely.
Unfortunately the ones doing it like us, or close to it, were silent to the
site, and so their opinions are going unnoticed to the vast consortium of T&T.
In view of this, our approach seems to be an isolated case, which apparently
it isnbt; in fact, it is wider spread than I even suspected.
We did find it somewhat ironic that many who suggested that we were very
selfish in cruising without VHF, did so because they were concerned that we
wouldnbt be available to help them, should they need it. Umm?
However, rest assured, that if we see your orange flag with the black square
and black ball on it, or a smoke flare, or a shooting flare, we'll pour on the
speed and spurt along a five knots to do whatever we can to help you.
But, if you're in international waters and are displaying a "high intensity
white light flashing at regular intervals from 50-70 times per minute" (strobe
light?), we'd more than likely just amble over at jusst 5 knots, just out of
curiosity, since the light does not suggest distress in int'l waters. (I know
ya'll knew that.)
Oh well, it appears that the basic message was overlooked and that was my
fault; it was presented in a manner that apparently was an emotional one.
Sorry for all the ruffled feathers and again I wish to thank all who took time
to respond.
See ya'll on the water?
