Today, I counted under my two home feeding stations at one time, 55 JUNCOS with many more in sight within the surounding area.
This is the most I have ever counted in 35 years, at one time, at my feeders here in Harwinton.
Their seems to be many more Juncos this year in the yard and encountered all over up here in northwest CT.
Is anyone else seeing more JUNCO at their feeders this year?
Paul Carrier - Harwinton
I am... although I didn't actually count, the front feeders seemed to be
surrounded by them... a huge influx of them than I can remember.

I wholeheartedly agree, I counted 62 here yesterday in the snow, more than double my normal bad weather count. Also, though in my experience they are mostly ground feeders, it seems more and more of them are hopping up 3 to 8' high to tray and other feeders, even though I still ground feed. They are such fun to watch!

Ditto to all. My high count last year (in poor weather) was 34. My feeder area butts up against wood edges, so including those hidden/foraging there, I counted 52 this last storm.
Though, as if on cue, there are 0 in my yard now, and over 20 White-throats.

Up to 55 in my nearly urban yard in Meriden over the last few days. Good winter to hone our junco observation skills. Lots of variation to be enjoyed in this species, maybe even uncover some western subspecies.
There's also been a flock of up to 20 Eastern Bluebirds popping in and out of the neighborhood for the last month or so. The other night Max and I caught them all going into old woodpecker nests in the maple tree outside our door as dusk approached.

Since finding an unusual junco I took to be a possible Dark-eyed Junco/White-throated Sparrow showed up under my feeders a few weeks ago. A quick email to Mark Szantyr who has a special interest and knowledge of these guys also thinks it's a good possibility. Makes it even more fun watching the feeder birds on a day like this. To see a photo of the one I had look here

and for a great article on these hybrids in general see Marks article and illustrations here.
