Windows 10 and OpenGL issue

Hi,
Tonight I took the plunge and upgraded to windows 10.
The first thing I ran after upgrading was OpenSCAD as I love it.

I received this message:

"Warning: Missing OpenGL capabilities for OpenCSG - OpenCSG has been
disabled.

It is highly recommended to use OpenSCAD on a system with OpenGL 2.0 or
later.
Your renderer information is as follows:
GLEW version 1.12.0
GDI Generic (Microsoft Corporation)
OpenGL version 1.1.0"

I accepted the warning, but my latest design was a mess - all the
Differences were missing in the preview.  But when I F6 rendered it, it all
looked OK.

A bit of research indicates that it is something to do with the graphics
driver - I have an old Intel G45/G43 chip set.  Windows tells me that it is
'up to date' and I have checked with Intel downloads, and it appears to be
the latest one.

Has anyone else had problems with OpenSCAD upgrade to windows 10, and any
idea how I fix this?

Thanks.

Can you do a copy paste of "help/show library" info ?

I assume that your GL_RENDERER_STRING &c should be something like
"Intel(R) G45/G43 Express Chipset",  but you are getting stuff like "GDI
GENERIC" which leads me to think that possibly your system is lacking
some support for that video chipset.

Here is a relevant link (i did a google search for "G45 Windows 10")
https://communities.intel.com/thread/78041 which would indicate there
may not be drivers for G45 out for Windows 10.

I would be curious if you are able to run any other 3d programs on your
machine? For example Song Ho Ahn's Framebuffer basic example (fbo.zip)
at http://www.songho.ca/opengl/gl_fbo.html

I have been testing OpenSCAD on Windows 10 in a virtual machine and have
seen some problems with OpenCSG preview mode, the basic no-frills
Microsoft OpenGL32.dll driver lacks support for the basic OpenGL
features that OpenCSG depends on.

Thanks

I to have updated on machine to windows 10 and I see the same problem.

I.e. The interactive viewport is missing several objects which appear when F6 is done.
Specifically:

  • F9 (preview) is the one that does not show objects correctly.
  • F10,11,12 show correctly
  • ShowEdges, Show Axes, Show Scale Markers, Show Crosshairs all work as before.

My system is an i7 laptop with option of selecting the Inbuilt HD graphics or nvidia chipset
It works withethe nvidia chipset selected.
It fails with the HD4400 chipset selected.

Specifically:

  • GeForce GT745M OpenGL Version: 4.5.0 NVIDIA 355.60
  • HD Graphics 4400 OpenGL Version: 4.3.0 - Build 10.18.15.4256

HI Donbright

You are correct about the GL Renderer being GDI Generic.  From the other
posts I can see that the Intel(R) G45/G43 Express Chipset does not have the
support for windows 10, and will not in the future :-(

It looks like I will have to go and by a graphics card.  Better go tell the
wife!

Thanks for your help.

It is my impression that all of Windows development is funded by the
graphics card purveyors.  I had to buy a new graphics card ... scratch
that ... a new computer to go from Win 8 to Win 8.1 because GL broke.  I
figure I'm due for another computer in the next few months.  Sigh.

Hmm... good to know.  We have a bunch of Core2 Duo Dells at our
hackerspace with Intel G45/G43 chips.  They are old enough to be
donated frequently.  I run Mint 17 on them, and I do use them for
OpenSCAD workstations (along with Arduino, and several other
development toolchains).

I suppose they would run Win7, but we aren't going to spend a bunch of
money on licenses for hardware that old.

I have the same problem. How you resolve it? What kind of driver I need?
Thank you,
