Can't install the 2016.1.26 Windows snapshot in my 64 bit Windows 7 OS

Hello

I tried to install both the 64 and 32 bit versions on my 64 bit Windows 7 OS
with no success.
I must say that the 32 bit version works well on my 32 bit Win XP system in
the same machine.
On the 64 bit OS the installer gets stuck and I cannot kill the 3 identical
processes that are created.
The same applies to the .zip files, when I try to run the openscad.exe app 3
identical processes are also created  that cant be killed, even after
waiting some minutes they don't disappear from the task manager.
The sole solution is shutdown the PC. I'm using an old  NVIDIA GeForce 6600
graphics board. Can it be a problem with the 64 bit drivers of th GPU?
See task manager picture:

Some help is welcome.
Thanks.

PS:
I must say that the 64 bit OpenSCAD 2015.3 version keeps still running well
in my 64 bit Win7 OS.

Hi, Could you check if the previous snapshots work? http://files.openscad.org/snapshots/OpenSCAD-2015.11.13-x86-32.zip http://files.openscad.org/snapshots/OpenSCAD-2015.11.13-x86-64.zip -Marius

Nope, but I think that I'm having a problem with my Win 7 OS. I tried to
install 'ImageMagick-6.9.1-9-Q16-x64-static.exe' and the same problem is
happening i.e. 3 identical processes in the task manager that can't be
killed.
I'll try to do a restore point to see if something change.

Thanks anyway

Hello

Sorry about returning to the subject again but something strange is
happening with the latest OpenSCAD snapshots for the 64 bit Windows 7 OS.
I will resume the facts:

1 - Some days ago I tried to install without success the latest snapshots
(both from installer and from .zip).  This happened after a bunch of windows
updates.

2 - I ran a system restore to restore from a previous date before the
updates and all went to normal with the OpenSCAD snapshots.

3 - Windows again installed the updates and all went wrong again. Although
installed, the OpenSCAD app creates 3 process and hangs. Killing the
explorer task brings down one process, the other two remain and can't be
killed.

4 - I tried to install the snapshots on my son's PC a 6 core machine running
also the 64 bit Win 7 OS that already had received the last Windows updates
and couldn't install the snapshots again.

5 - In my Son's PC, I stopped the Avast antivirus and all went back to
normal. I got OpenSCAD snapshot installed an executed. After restarting the
Avast I still kept executing the app. However if I shutdown the machine  the
problem returns and I have to stop the antivirus to get the app running.

6 - Same symptoms apply to my machine also.

Conclusion: Some problem exist that is related with Avast, latest windows
updates, and last OpenSCAD snapshots. This problems doesn't  happen with the
2015.3.2 version.

If someone is running an updated Windows 7 64 bit OS + Avast antivirus 2015
please report your experience.

Thanks.

Sorry, not Avast, but just confirming the 64 bit snapshot on 64 bit Win 7
works fine here with AVG. Both zip & installer.

Hey,

We’ve had reports in the past that Avast is treating OpenSCAD badly, perhaps because we don’t have a digital signature and we access the Windows registry.
In Avast, it’s possible to whitelist an application. Could you try that and see if that improves things?
If that works, I’d say you've found a bug in Avast. If not, let’s try to dig deeper.

Hi Kintel

You are wright, thanks a lot for your suggestion. After excluding the
OpenSCAD dir from Avast verification all is working well.

Cheers
