Garmin Chart & Street Map Data Base Sizes

I am finally moving into this millennium and getting smart phone which will
be an iPhone 6, that I want to use for offline navigation with the built in
GPS so as not to gobble up my data plan.

My preference would be to down load the Garmin street map data base for the
US and/or charts as I have been happy with Garmin in the past. However, I am
concerned the data base size of the maps and charts may be too large for a
16 GB iPhone. After an extensive online search, I can not find the MB or GB
size for either the Garmin street map or chart data bases. Does anyone know
where I can find these data base sizes or if navigating like this is really
doable?

I have the Garmin Blue mobile  on my I-pad with charts dowloaded for all of North America east of the rockies and it is 1.4 gig of data with app..  Your I-phone should handle this easily, so not a problem

Michael,
I've had my iPhone 6+ for about 8 months now. Bigger screen for older eyes. Had the foresight to buy the 64  GB option. For offline street navigation I'm using GPS CoPilot. The N America detailed street maps take up 9GB!  Your first continent is free, additional continents can be purchased. This app works great, doesn't use your data plan and doesn't go dead when you drive someplace without data coverage.

I haven't tried any charting apps yet.

Correction. The N American street maps for GPS CoPilot take up 2.4GB, not the 9GB I previously stated. And yes, updated charts are regularly available.
