Is literacy a constitutional right? For adults as well as children? We may soon find out if a Detroit lawsuit reaches the Supreme Court. This Detroit Free Press article, "Detroit school lawsuit: Does U.S. Constitution guarantee literacy?"http://www.freep.com/story/news/education/2016/10/01/literacy/90902874/ http://www.freep.com/story/news/education/2016/10/01/literacy/90902874/ describes the Michigan lawsuit as well as several other recent education lawsuits, more that half of which have been successful.

After reading the article, do you think literacy is already a constitutional right? Should it be? Should we advocate for adults to be included in a Right to Literacy campaign?
