Because Capt'n Joseph Berta can only read list mail and not post to the list
because of some "glitch"....here is more information on the creation of a
web site to display members and their boats, via-me posting for Capt'n Joe
until he works out the "glitch".
His e-mail address is Joseph Berta at
gjberta@marinesupportonline.com
Here is what I tried to post last night but it did not get through:
(I also saw and appreciate you last post. I can read but can not post.)
Feel free to use this as you wish.
Thanks again,
Capt. Joe

Thanks to all responding to the idea of a Trawler World List photo archive.
So far I have received some Great shots of some Great boats.
While a free photo depository such as www.photopoint.com has been suggested,
I feel that it is rather limited in what we can do with it.
My idea was more along the lines of web pages, where we could dress things
up a bit and add descriptive.
The other drawback of the Photopoint site is the need for a recognized
e-mail address, limiting the administrative tasks to one person.
The same is the problem with my earlier suggestion of using my own
MarineSupportOnLine site.
So, here is what I come up with:
I already set up a sample site allowing us 50 megs of disc space for free at
50megs.com.
The URL is http://twlimages.50megs.com
Please Note; No Ws! This is a subdomain. Just type "twlimages.50megs.com"
into your browser.
The nice thing about this is that it Is a web site, the URL is easy to
remember and if we need to transfer it in the future, - like if Trawler
World.com gives us disc space, - then we can do it lickity split with FTP.
The best thing about it is, that any one of us with some knowledge of HTML
can work it from anywhere, all they need is the password and the FTP
parameters.
Also, on the site we can set up a guest book type form mail, to deal with
requests and suggestions relating to the photo site exclusively, thus
placing that much less congestion on the TWL.
I can put the start up pages together in a few days and will take care of it
for now, but a couple of people familiar with HTML would be nice to have as
volunteers, just in case I get swallowed by a whale or run over by a bus.
Let me know your thoughts,
Capt. Joe
Hi again Bob
Listee Ray Henry offered his help before I backed out.
I saw what he has done with websites, and I think he is very talented and
knows what he is doing, while I'm only dabbling in the stuff.
I talked to him tonight, he has no time to do it alone (neither do I), but I
have a feeling that his offer of extending his help would still stand.
With his and some others' help, perhaps we could make it happen.
Ray is talking about being able to build a site where people can post their
own material without having any one particular person as the "pipeline".
This would be the way to go, but I do not have that kind of expertise in
website design.
If you post it, please make some reference to the above.
Thanks,
Capt. Joe
