Olalla welcomes 2015 with a concert by Greenland native Simon Lynge

Lynge will perform at the community hall Jan. 10

(OLALLA) The Olalla Community Club kicks of the New Year on Jan. 10 with a concert by Inuit-Scandinavian singer-songwriter Simon Lynge at the community hall.

Lynge grew up on the steppes of Greenland in a family well-known in music and theater circles. After immersing himself in the study of drums, piano and opera at the Holstebro Music Conservatory in Denmark, he switched to guitar and discovered his songwriting talents.

That led to performances at the famed Tivoli Gardens in the Danish capitol (for a crowd of 25,000) and gigs on this side of the Atlantic in Nashville and in Los Angeles.

He’s the first solo artist from Greenland to have an album released across the UK and the first Greenlander to play the UK’s Glatsonbury Festival.

The BBC calls Lynge “...an amazing talent who plays beautiful, beautiful music.”

“We’re just thrilled to have Simon play in Olalla,” said Nolan Pepperdine who produces OCC’s Second Saturday Clubhouse Concerts. “He’s a one-of-a-kind musical talent, very down-to-earth with a remarkable sense of the beauty and wonder of the natural world.

There’s a wonderful line in one of the songs on his new CD – ‘I saw the mountains and the rivers and the beauty of us all…’”

Lynge’s Olalla show is the January installment of OCC’s Second Saturday Clubhouse Concerts series. The evening begins with a potluck at 6 p.m. for those who want to get to know the performer. Music starts at 7 p.m

Admission is by donation, with proceeds split between the artist and the Community Club, a non-profit organization that has been serving Olalla since 1937.

The next Clubhouse Concert takes place Feb. 7 with the Ian McFeron Band. The March 14 show features local favorite Rokkerbox, followed by Carl Tosten on Apr. 11.
