Hi Ed
I don't know of any free charting software, but for $75, you can
purchase excellent, full-featured navigation programs that work in all
three environments, air, land, and sea. Take a look at the down-loadable
demos at www.fugawi.com and www.oziexplorer.com.
If you have access to a scanner, you can transfer your paper charts into
a digital format that either program will convert and accept. I have all
the raster charts for my region so never bothered trying this feature
until last week. When I wanted to test the Navman GPS unit at home and
had no maps to use as a base, I scanned the local city map. The process
is a bit time-consuming, but it works remarkably well.
Cheers, Garrett
