From Keith Mueller:
01/16/14 - West Haven, West Haven boat ramp -- 13 Redheads out by the
pilings left of the boat ramp, out in front of the New Haven yacht
club.
Stratford, Long Beach --  2 Iceland ( adult and 1st cycle) on last
jetty to east and hybrid* White winged gull in usual place on jetty at
west end parking lot.  In the middle of the marsh, one Snowy Owl.
*Note that this bird described here as a hybrid has generated some
discussion on CTBirds, where educated opinions have diverged on the
heritage of this individual.  Fascinating, or boring, it depends on
how you regard the confusion of gulls.
Madison, Circle Beach -- 4:00 PM;  the continuing adult Kumlien's Gull
("FC") was feeding in the East River marsh.

From Charlie Barnard Jr:
01/16/14 - Milford, Milford Point, via Stratford, Short Beach -- 5
Snowy Owls were in view at Milford Point during 1 sweep of the
spotting scope as viewed from the Stratford side of the Housatonic
River at Short Beach.  A few minutes later, after moving towards the
Stratford marshes to the West, 2 more were seen on some large flotsam
material far out in the marsh as viewed from Long Beach. These latter
2 birds were perched within a few feet of each other with no apparent
conflict.

From Frank Mantlik:
01/16/14 - Westport, Sherwood Is SP -- lots of loons, ducks and water
birds offshore this afternoon, including at least 133 HORNED GREBES.
And that total was just off the East Beach! I didn't have time to
thoroughly look for rarities such as Eared Grebe, but it is
recommended to those who live nearby.
Norwalk, 14-Acre Pond -- female BLUE-WINGED TEAL and immature male
NORTHERN SHOVELER continue. The latter was in the small pond to the
south of the Senior Center.
Stratford, Forest Rd -- 16 RUSTY BLACKBIRDS.

From Bruce Finnan:
01/16/14 - Waterbury, Bunker Hill residence -- single Brown Creeper in
the yard this morning.  New town and yard bird.

From Bill Batsford:
01/16/14 - Milford, Silver Sands -- Eastern Meadowlark seen in flight
and perched over "sparrow lanes".

From Annette Cunniffe and Meredith Sampson:
01/16/14 - Greenwich -- 4 REDHEADS in the Mianus River in Cos Cob
Harbor, SNOW GOOSE in Belle Haven by the yacht club.

From Angela Dimmitt:
01/16/14 - New Milford/Housatonic just above Veterans' Bridge --
RED-NECKED GREBE (conspic. yellow bill; white patches behind ears
extended almost to top of head, forming a cross on the back of the
head/neck).

From Ray Belding with Jerry Marcellino:
01/16/14 - Morris, Anderson Rd -- 1 male White-crowned Sparrow in
forsythia near the house with feeders.

From Robert Dixon:
01/16/14 - West Haven, Boat Ramp with Steve Broker -- REDHEAD (2m/2f)
among the large numbers of Brant and Greater Scaup.
West Haven, Merwin Pt -- HARLEQUIN DUCK continues among the rocks
straight out from the benches hanging out with a couple dozen Scaup.
Madison, Hammonasset State Park, Moraine Trail -- SNOWY OWL, GREAT
CORMORANT (4).

From Roy Zartarian:
01/15/14 - Newington -- one PEREGRINE FALCON seen in flight headed
northeast over the Newington Senior Center. Checking the Cedarcrest
antenna tower from a distance through binoculars about 20 minutes
later I saw something perched there. It could very well have been the
falcon.
