As departure time approaches our To-Do list is being whittled down. One of
the items we recently checked off was the acquisition of a Verizon air card
and setting up the Verizon wireless broadband. Since we will be shutting down
our DSL service, we need to establish new e-mail accounts. One friend uses
Yahoo and is satisfied but I thought I poll this list and see what other users
are doing. What say the group?

I have accounts on Yahoo, Gmail and Hotmail. Probably the big three
web-based email providers. Using the web interfaces, my preference is
Yahoo with Gmail a close 2nd. Hotmail is a very distant third. I
think that Gmail might be invitation only. If anyone needs an
invitation, just let me know.
If you need POP3 service, then check out HotPop, which will give you
native POP3 service. There are some parsing programs that will imitate
POP3 service for Yahoo accounts, but I don't have any experience with
them. Of course, Yahoo will charge you if you are interested in
getting native POP3 service from them too.

One of the nice things about Yahoo mail is the easy access from any computer. The free 100mb of space is more than enough for any casual user, they get my vote...GEH

I've been using a Yahoo account for over a year and am very happy with it. I
have the upgrade version that costs something like $16 a year or so, and I
purchased my domain name so my e-mail is now keith@anastasia3.com. I can use
that even if I switch providers. With the upgrade mail service, you can use
POP mail, and check your mail through any internet connection. I still have
a free Yahoo mail account that almost nobody knows; that's where I get legal
stuff like credit card statements, mortgage notices, etc. NEVER use it for
anything else, so it never gets a single joke, spam, etc. Makes it lots
easier to check for important stuff when you're on the road. The anti spam
and anti virus features work very well!
Since I really don't have an ISP, I browse the newsgroups through Google,
at: http://groups.google.com/
I also use the Verizon air card and am very happy with it. It has worked
almost everywhere I've been. I purchased theater tickets while my girlfriend
drove down the road after picking me up in Atlanta. Works up and down the TX
coast as well.

Randy,
We are in the same mode.
Acquired the Verizon air card several months ago and it is working
fine. We got the unlimited use provision. On a car trip to WATERCOLOR
, that is next to SEASIDE near Destin , Fla. we found spotty coverage.
Gave up the cable access.
We use gmail and are very happy with it.--Get to keep the same e
mail add no matter how we access the net or our isp.
We do use MOZILLA e mail program as I was comfortable with it and do
not care for the g mail format. Personal preference.

gMail.
Their Web interface is rather good (meaning, not real slow). AND they have
POP3 accessibility, so you can just download all your Email to your lap-top
and read at your will w/o using a slow cell-linked Web reader.

I like gMail.

GMail does not charge extra for POP3 access

I have used Yahoo to host my domain name / business e-mail for the last 7 years and have had no problems. Of course, the nice thing with a service like Yahoo -- if you can find a computer with Internet access -- you can get your e-mail. No POP3 needed -- even though they do have that option.
