Visitors:
A few visitors today and thanks to everyone for helping out spotting the
birds.
Weather:
The day started in bright sunshine but closed in completely in the 2nd hour
and didnât clear up to a nice mix of sun and cloud till about 11:00
EDT⦠and I think this affected the flight. Winds were great all day
moderate from the NW. Temps ranged from 11C to start and getting to a high
of 17C so at least it was cooler for the day.
Raptor Observations:
A disappointing flight today given the good conditions. We tallied exactly
800 birds today but most were TVs (704)⦠other birds seen included a
single Osprey, N. Harrier (15) with a nice adult male that was the 1st bird
of the day, Sharpies (34), Coopers Hawks (4), Redtails (7), Am Kestrels
(28) and a few Bald Eagles (7).
Non-raptor Observations:
Lots of passerines activity first thing with the sun rise right around the
viewing platform including a nice Northern Parula, Tennessee Warbler and
tons of Yellow-rumped warblers. For a full list see the following eBird
checklist:
https://ebird.org/checklist/S197956416
There were 15 Monarchs spotted today.
Predictions:
Tuesdayâs forecast promises more moderate NW winds but hopefully a
brighter broken sky earlier in the morning. In theory we should a decent
flight tomorrow but as today proved thereâs no guarantee.
