Safety Matters, Mike Wittman, Committee Chair safety@vuecrest.netmailto:safety@vuecrest.net
It’s raining cats and dogs!  Well, not quite as January 2025 is close to setting a record for low precipitation in the Seattle area.  If we go through the end of the month without any measurable precipitation, this January will be marked in the record books as the third driest on record.  Yet, it’s not nearly the dog days of summer!  However, we recently have had a spate of “dogs on the loose”!  Although the Vuecrest HOA bylaws do not include a specific “leash law”, and the City of Bellevue has only restrictions on animals running freely in the city parks, it seems that common courtesy and respect of neighbors would cause our community not to allow dogs off leash, roaming freely.
Dogs of any size and demeanor can be intimidating to folks not generally accustomed to the company of dogs, and in particular to children who may be smaller than the dog that perhaps just wants to come up and “say hello”!  And then there’s that issue with “poop.”  Yep, dogs gotta go too, and they just don’t have the humanistic notion of where, when and why not clean up after oneself!
Yours truly during the summer months was the recipient of at least two deposits of a canine nature each week, suspecting they may have been left by a friendly pet who “just needed to get out for a break” while its care-person was busy with other priorities.  In the spirit of maintaining good relationships among all our neighbors, dog lovers or not, please keep your pets on-leash and remember to clean up after them!  I think most, if not all our community members do keep their dogs on-leash during their daily outings, and there are only a few exceptions of those who allow dogs to run freely.  Thanks for being considerate, and for being part of a welcoming community by keeping your dog in your yard, or on-leash!
Please see City of Bellevue site regarding removal of dog waste herehttps://bellevuewa.gov/city-government/departments/utilities/conservation-and-the-environment/protecting-our-waterways/pet_waste
For recurring issues with unknown, free-roaming pups, contact King County Animal Controlhttps://kingcounty.gov/en/dept/executive-services/animals-pets-pests/regional-animal-services/animal-control-response
Otherwise, if you know, or suspect you know where frequent off-leash dog activity is coming from, a friendly neighbor-to-neighbor approach is always a good option.  Or contact a Safety Committee member, or Good Neighbor Committee member to request help in having a conversation at the source of the activity!
Be Safe, Be A Good Neighbor!
Contact our safety committee at safety@vuecrest.netmailto:safety@vuecrest.net if you would like to further explore your own disaster readiness.  Safety Matters!

REMINDER – No Extended Street Parking in Bellevue or Vuecrest Community
Be sure to park your vehicles off the street and into your garage and driveways!  The City of Bellevue does not allow vehicles to be parked on our streets longer than 24 hours (Bellevue Municipal Code 11.23.020) and parking over 24 hours is prohibited.  Except for authorized time limit zones (BCC 11.23.022), no person may park or re-park a vehicle on either side of a public street within the same block for a period exceeding 24 consecutive hours. A vehicle shall be deemed to be parked in violation of this section unless the vehicle is moved to a different block every 24 hours. For purposes of this section, a block is defined as the stretch of roadway between the two closest public street intersections on either end of the stretch. For cases where a roadway ends, a block is defined as the stretch of roadway between the end of the roadway and the closest public street intersection. (Ord. 6686 § 1, 2022; Ord. 6383 § 1, 2017; Ord. 4611 § 6, 1993.)
REPORT vehicles parked more than 24hrs. via the City of Bellevue APP is easy.  Download the City of Bellevue APP to your mobile phone from the APP Store and submit your report.

Good Neighbor and Compliance Committee, Chris Bodiford, Committee Chair goodneighbor@vuecrest.netmailto:goodneighbor@vuecrest.net
Since the Vuecrest Fine and Enforcement Policy became effective in June 2024, the Board developed a process to help engage neighbors, track and bring potential issues/violations to resolution via an updated Good Neighbor Compliance committee approach.  Below is a visual to better understand what the committee does and how the process works.

Trash/Recycle/Yard waste tote etiquette
Here’s a few reminders regarding trash/recycle/yard waste tote etiquette in the Vuecrest community;

  • Totes should be put out the day before collection and then pulled back in the day after collection
  • Totes should be stored on your property in a place not visible from the street
  • Place totes at or nearest the end of your driveway for collection only
  • Secure all bin lids in the down position, especially the garbage bin to ensure lids are down and garbage is contained and helps keep birds and other critters from making a mess before collection
  • Ask a neighbor to put your totes out or bring them in if you are planning to be out of town
  • Never leave totes out on the street for an extended period of time
  • Promptly clean-up any trash or other debris that may have occurred near your property during collection day
