Call to artists
The City of Tacoma EnviroHouse is seeking Western Washington artists who create art with recycled or "found" materials to display for a minimum three month period. The EnviroHouse is a permanent model home environment promoting green building and sustainable lifestyles.

ARTWORK DESIRED
Functional art, 2-D and 3-D art is desired for display. All artwork must include a minimum of 75% recycled, salvaged or "found" materials.

  •     2-dimensional artwork
    

All 2-D artwork must be prepared for immediate installation. Artists must provide appropriate hanging cleats, wires, and/or frames. The EnviroHouse staff will direct the installation of the exhibit and will provide standard hanging hooks.

  •     3-dimensional artwork
    

All 3-D artwork must be prepared for immediate installation. Sculpture selection criterion includes size, suitability for the display environment and safe locations for installation.

  •     Functional artwork
    

Examples include furnishings (lamps, tables, coat stands, chairs), accessories (pottery, weavings, wood carvings, bowls) wearable art (clothing, purses, jewelry) and more. Work is displayed in-situ.

DEADLINE FOR SUBMISSIONS:              March 24, 2010
Notification to artists:                                  April 7, 2010
Installation of selected artwork:                    May 1, 2010
Artist's reception - Second Sunday                May 9, 2010
Exhibition dates:                                          May 1 - July 30, 2010
Pick up artwork                                            July 30-31, 2010

Selection, exhibition and promotion
A panel of representatives from the funding partners of the EnviroHouse will select artists and pieces to be on display for a period of three months. Artists may be selected for a solo show or as part of a group show. A "Meet the Artist" reception is held early in the cycle with standard media promotion provided. The City provides a secure environment but does not assume liability for artwork on display. A Hold Harmless Agreement must be signed prior to display.

The City of Tacoma's EnviroHouse is a permanent model home environment showcasing green building and natural landscape ideas, materials and techniques to create a healthy home and yard. The EnviroHouse is located at the City of Tacoma Landfill, 3510 S. Mullen St., and is open and staffed Wed.-Fri., 10 a.m.-3 p.m. and Sat.-Sun., 11 a.m.-5 p.m.
