Cruising America's Great Loop and other inland routes
View all threadsThere have been several posts regarding one of the main disadvantages
of Computer Navigation systems on an upper helm or fly bridge due to
sunlight washout of the computer screen.
We have found out that a neat velcro attached sun shield called the
CompuScreen to take care of the glare and in most cases solves the
problem.
We have no financial interest in this company, just a very satisfied
customer. We have found that their product works very well on the
bridge of our boat. It also folds flat on the top of the laptop.
sets up in less than a minute, and still fits in our comput's
carrying case.
LAPTOP COMPUTER SUN SHADE
Navigating with computer charting interfaced with a GPS offers many
advantages over Chart Plotters in that the screen size is much larger
and digital charts can be downloaded at no cost. The biggest
disadvantage is the sun glare and lack of color intensity. The
CompuShade computer screen hood does a great job of keeping sun glare
off the screen which washes out color intensity, brightness and
contrast.
Below is the web site URL for the CompuShade sun hood recommended for
those using computer navigation on their boats.

This patented sun hood enables you to open and close your laptop
while the folded hood remains attached to the back of the lid (see
demo video). There is no need to remove the hood from the computer
when storing it in most computer cases. The universal model #LAPTOP-
UNV fits virtually all 10-to-17 inch laptop computers
