As some of you know, my day job is in magazines. As a journalist, one
of my personality disorders is that I always want to set the record
straight.

Power Cruising, the other national magazine devoted to voyaging and
cruising under power, published a lengthy report with many fine
photographs on Ben Gray's remarkable circumnavigation.

I assume Bob refers to Circumnavigator, the Nordhavn magazine. In the
last edition, a photo of Idlewild in ice in the Northwest Passage was
published, and Ben Gray and his sons were added to the magazine's
honor roll of circumnavigators under power.
That same honor roll appears on the Web on the Trawlers & Trawlering site:
http://www.trawlersandtrawlering.com/circumnavigators/circumnavigators.html
Trawlers & Trawlering gave the Idlewild circumnavigation extensive coverage:

Ben Gray and his sons and Idlewild, which I believe was a George
Buehler-Ben Gray collaboration, deserved every bit of recognition for
the incredible voyage.
Disclosure: At the time I wrote the Idlewild story for Power
Cruising, I was the magazine's field editor. I always have been and
still am editor of Circumnavigator.

My apologies to Georgs who, many of you may not know, broke the sailing
speed record from New York to SF I think it was, some years ago. As well
as to the Nordhaven folks for their coverage of Ben. I didn't know that
either....
But I meant rags like Yachting, Motorboating and Sailing, Sea, etc.
Hell, when the first Westsail 32 went around the world it was even
written up in TIME magazine. Probably because of the woman. Time's
photo of the boat was the bow of the boat, shot from a low skiff,
focused on the crotch of this very cute blond who was wearing short
shorts. Needless to say every 40s something guy who could do it went
out and bought a Westsail 32.......

Whether selling beer or boats, the same advertising approach works.
Apparently.
