I assume that this is the GS 43 in San Pedro.  A couple of questions I would
ask:  How does the boat do in beam seas.  Do the sea trial in the late
afternoon, when the ocean is kicking up a bit--not in the AM when it is calm.
How much does the boat roll?  How comfortable are you with this motion?

Do you like the single bunks--or prefer an Island Queen. We happen to like the
Island bunks in trawlers.

How easy is it to get out of the side doors?  Some sundecks have doors aft to
the sundeck--for me (size is an issue, with height) the side doors are hard to
get in and out of.  Also in a sea way, you have to go thru these doors to get
to the lower helm.

I would question the top speed--maybe at WOT--but I doubt it.  I had a boat of
the same size but with twice the HP__and it would barely do 12 knots. (other
comperable boats give max speed 10.5 knots)  A comfortable cruising speed
would be closer to 7 to 8 knots (for economy)

Also see how much spray in a chop--I note that spray rails have been added.

I don't remember if these boats had fiberglass fuel tanks--if so it is a plus.
Iron tanks, may have to be replaced, if not already done.

Look at the comfort of  the seating--both dinette (which is down--and I happen
to like that, but in S. Calif, I really like to watch out all around when at
the hook even at meal time.

Also consider the height of the aft deck for docking--you have to get to
floating docks in S. calif--so this means either a side boarding ladder or
going down to the swim step.

Some folks like an enclosure around the aft deck.  Also where does the dinghy
go--and a dinghy is important for S. Calif.

Generally I like these boats, but just bring out a few of my thoughts on this
perticular one.

I don't think you can go wrong, if the boat is what you want.

Bob Austin
