We do things a little differently than some--we stay in the commercial
harbor--at anchor--a few miles South of the "Tourist" area. There are easy
busses to the Mercado and never had any problems--plus it was free!--and away
from all of the Norte Americanos! There was a YC where the dinghy was safe for
about $3 a day (may be a little more now). Lots of fun watching the shipping
and fishing boats comming and going. The huge Tuna clippers are now stationed
there, rather than in San Diego or San Pedro as they were in years of yore!
It also gives one a feeling of the real working waterfront which still exists
in these countries.
