Good grief. No one is suggesting that a route be programmed
into an
auto-pilot of any kind and then the skipper just walk away .
. .
Unfortunately, that is exactly what a lot of people are expecting of
today's technology.
Common sense is remarkably uncommon in the general public.
We read of airlines that can be landed hands-off in pea soup fog and robot
vehicles exploring the other planets and rover subs searching sunken ships
etc.
People have come to expect that technology is a miracle cure for whatever!
and all you have to do is buy some.
I had at least six customer who expected to do just that. Oh boy!!
Cheers

After 35 years of sailing, I find the ocean tends to give the morons such
bad experiences that they ultimately get off the water. Hopefully, they
don't hurt anyone else during mother nature's education process.
Personally, I don't interface anything to the PC except the GPS, and that
may make me old fashioned in some eyes, but I've also spent 34 years in
computers and that tends to make me cautious...

Phil, so did I since 1965 with Honeywell, mainframes of course. Where
did you serve your pennance?
