A member has the following question and I will pass along the responses as I receive them - Thank you for your help.
Have any cities been asked to join the Alabama v. Ross case? If yes, would you mind sharing your reasons for joining (or not joining) and any analysis you feel will be useful in helping other cities decide whether or not to join? Also, are there any costs involved in participating in the case?
Per the Lawyer's Committee, this is a case in which the State of Alabama and U.S. Representative Morris "Mo" Brooks filed a lawsuit against the U.S. Department of Commerce and the U.S. Census Bureau claiming that Alabama could potentially lose one congressional seat and one electoral vote if "illegal aliens" are included in the 2020 Census, which the Complaint defines as those who entered or remained in the U.S. unlawfully. Alabama seeks to exclude all undocumented immigrants from the Census count.
