No Hummers
Hummingbirds always show up at my home on May 1. This year I have not seen any, although the feeder was up. This year lots of Grackles and Red-wing Blackbirds are in the yard. Perhaps the blackbirds discouraged the hummers from nesting here.

Hi, Pat!
No hummers in our yard in Chester yet, either. But we've been stuck in such a crazy weather pattern for the past stretch - basically, a pinwheel of rain - that I wouldn't be surprised if any migrants are a bit shaken off course or hunkering down until the weather shifts. I've loved having the rain, but am also ready for a little more warmth and sun.
We did get catbird, oriole, wood thrush, and parula blown in yesterday morning, and our bluebirds already have one cheeping brood in a box! The other regulars can't be far behind.

My first hummer this year was May 1st. Remember, many of these hummers are still migrating and may stop for a quick drink but then move on. Males precede females and when the females show up they are probably looking for mates and nest sites. Males quickly become less obvious after mating.
Hummers brighten up these dreary days nicely.

I had a male hover and look at my feeder three times on 4/24 though never stopped to take nectar. My neighbors also have feeders so I thought he was just stopping at theirs because I was outside in the immediate area. He did not return the next day or thereafter.
This morning I had (presumably) a female stop to feed twice. I’ve been out doing yard work all morning and have not seen her again.
My thought is they are passing through. I’m also wondering if they could be last year’s hatch; we had 3 juveniles feeding through the end of September.
There was an interesting article posted on one of the group chats last season about how hummingbirds remember every feeder and flower visited.
Anxiously awaiting the return of daily hummingbirds at my feeder.

I’ve had one male since April 22( I’m in Thomaston.) I believe this is the same “main” male I had last year as he flies right up to me. I suspect a second arrived today because the first male is territorial today. They will get here.
